Connecting People. Connecting Ideas.

PeopleFund’s Martha Victoria Valdez and Ambitious Management’s Amber Avis hosted an International Women’s Day Luncheon at MileOne in downtown Laredo. The event marked a new tradition of celebrating the achievements of local female entrepreneurs and the global strides made towards gender equality.

The event kicked off with a proclamation by Webb Country Commissioners Wawi Tijerina and Cindy Liendo honoring this special day and making the new tradition official.

In attendance were women of all ages along with businesswomen representing every sector of the economy. Over 80 attendees wore purple to commemorate International Women’s Day and in solidarity with people celebrating across the globe.

The main event featured a distinguished panel of businesswomen who shared the challenges they have faced as well as their successes and aspirations. Speakers included Belinda Guerra of Guerra Communications, Angela Lutz of MBA Mortgage, and Briana Benavides of Spinsanity. The panel was moderated by Amber Avis.

“It was great to see so many empowered women in attendance today. We truly want to see an increase of female entrepreneurs at MileOne and in the Laredo area,” observed Cesar G. Hernandez, MileOne Program Director.

Marketing Director Roger C. Garcia added, “It is inspiring to see the sense of community fostered at these events. You can clearly see the genuine feeling of support between these incredible businesswomen.”

International Women’s Day (IWD), which began as a suffrage movement, celebrates the social, cultural, economic, and political contributions of women worldwide. It is also a call for continued progress towards gender equality. The UN’s designated theme for IWD 2019 is “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change.”
